Meet Our New CWCC Intern, Katie Collins!

We’re so excited to share with you that the CWCC Team has a new addition for the summer, Katie Collins!

Katie is originally from Colorado but attends the University of Oregon in Eugene, OR. She is a proud Duck who is a top-notch student and is also a leader on the lacrosse field. Seeing as Katie’s first week happens to coincide with the 50th Anniversary of Title IX, we thought we’d share with you a little about what the civil rights law means to Katie and the generations of female athletes that came before her and will come after.

Meet Katie…

1.Tell us about being a student athlete and how Title IX has benefitted you

As a student athlete, Title IX has allowed me to pursue a degree while getting to play the sport that I love and that I’ve dedicated my whole life to. Growing up in Colorado and playing lacrosse from a young age, not a lot of kids I went to school with knew what lacrosse was, but once I got to high school, I was able to compete on one of the best high school teams in the state and on the West Coast.

What I loved about playing at Cherry Creek High School was that we were taken seriously as athletes and given many of the same opportunities as the men’s lacrosse team and other male sports. Now at the University of Oregon, I am given so many resources and so much support from the athletic department as a result of Title IX. I am able to go to school, receive a scholarship for the game I love to play, and I am taken seriously as an athlete at the collegiate level.

2. What are you most excited about with this internship with CWCC?

This summer, I am most excited about getting to learn about marketing in the real world. I’ve taken dozens of classes related to marketing, but nothing is better than getting hands-on experience. I am also excited to get the chance to meet a lot of women that have changed and are continuing to change the business world in Colorado.

3. What is something someone might be surprised to know about you?

Something people may not know about me is that my preferred choice of music is 70s/80s rock, soft rock, and pop. My favorite band would have to be Fleetwood Mac, but I’m also a fan of Queen, Billy Joel, and Hall and Oates.

4. Travel destination

If I could travel anywhere in the world, I think my first choice would be Italy. I’m a bread, pasta, cheese, and wine lover and there’s no better place I could imagine than the home of some of my favorite things. I look forward to getting to travel once I graduate from the University of Oregon and I’m hoping to make Italy one of my first stops!
