NAWBO-Denver to dissolve, members to join the Colorado Women’s Chamber

The members of the Denver Chapter of National Association of Women Business Owners (NAWBO) voted unanimously to dissolve their local chapter during a special meeting on May 7.  NAWBO-Denver members will now transition into the Colorado Women’s Chamber of Commerce. The effective date of the dissolution of NAWBO-Denver is June 30, 2009 and NAWBO-Denver members will become members of the CWCC effective May 11.

“The NAWBO-Denver Board approached us several months ago about the opportunity of transitioning their members into the Chamber,” said Donna Evans, President and CEO, Colorado Women’s Chamber of Commerce.  “The CWCC is dedicated to furthering women in business and we currently have quite a few business owners as members.  This seemed like the perfect fit.”

Since 1983, the NAWBO-Denver chapter has served local women business owners with a legacy of education and support. However, given the current state of the economy, NAWBO-Denver experienced a decline in revenue and membership.

“This tough economic climate is challenging business owners to cut back both their financial and volunteer commitments. Unfortunately, this doesn’t allow for their active participation in a volunteer-driven organization such as NAWBO,” said Susan Clarke, President, NAWBO-Denver.  “CWCC has many programs and services tailored for women business owners that are the perfect fit for our NAWBO members.”

According to Evans, CWCC launched a new Business Owners Council to actively support business owners.  To celebrate the future and to get to know each other, CWCC will host a Business After Hours from 6 to 7:30 p.m. May 18 at JohnstonWells Public Relations, 1321 15th St. in Denver, CO. The cost to attend is $10 for members and $15 for non-members.
