Name: Alejandra “Ale” Spray
Organization: Mortenson
Title: Business Development Manager – Community Engagement
Community work (board service, volunteering, mentoring, etc.):
I have the honor of serving on the following boards:
- Bellco Credit Union
- Centura / Avista Adventist Hospital
- Mile High Youth Corps
- Society for Marketing Professional Services, Colorado Chapter
Furthermore I am fortunate to mentor couple young professionals in the construction industry, volunteering with STEMblazers to inspire girls to pursue careers in STEM fields and constantly participating in career fairs and career panels to promote the role of women in our industry.
CWCC Involvement (CWCC member for x amount of years, Engagement within CWCC: serve on our board, support our members and team, etc.): Mortenson has been a CWCC member since 2010 and upon joining Mortenson in June 2019, I attended an orientation event where I learned about different opportunities to get involved with the Chamber. We were honored to be recognized as the Industry Trailblazer of the year at the Champions of Change event in 2019. Currently, I am engaged with the Corporate Women group which has been a fantastic experience as I have connected with other participants to learn more about our roles and how we can collaborate together.
The Why: Why do you do what you do/ why are you passionate about your work in our community?:
As an immigrant, I experienced the daunting task of starting over in a new country and developing a professional network. I have been fortunate to meet people from different backgrounds, industries, companies, walks of life and to realize that we are all connected. We have more in common regardless of where our story began. I am passionate about sharing and connecting opportunities with individuals, to support local/small/women and minority owned businesses which are key to our economy and to see more women gaining ground in non-conventional careers. After 20+ years in the construction industry watching more young women being interested and looking for support as the grow their careers is what drives and inspires me.
