Cummins, Inc: Driving Change for Women and Girls Locally and Globally

Cummins, Inc. celebrates its 100-year anniversary in 2019, but its mission and values are anything but old-fashioned. The diesel, natural gas, and electrified power company has a legacy of doing what right for its customers and community.

As the Sustaining Sponsor of the Colorado Women’s Chamber of Commerce Girls Rising event, Cummins aligns its corporate responsibility and community involvement goals with the mission of the CWCC and its Girls Rising event, seeking to help build a pipeline of empowered female leaders in non-traditional careers.

“Cummins believes that a diverse workplace promotes a culture of innovation and collaboration – and it is simply the responsible and right thing to do,” said Brian Ondre, Executive Director Cummins Sales & Service North America. “As we look to grow and recruit talent in all regions, locally and globally, we want young women and girls to know about the opportunities we have.”

In addition to gender diversity initiatives, Cummins also addresses female empowerment on a global scale through its Cummins Powers Women program. The company has invested $10 million in its partnership with a network of global nonprofit organizations that have existing, proven programs with metrics in place. The programs will focus on areas where significant barriers exist to the advancement of girls and women, including grass-roots teaching and mentoring, financial empowerment through entrepreneurship, leadership training, and strategic guidance to non-profit leaders.

Cummins has been grounded since its founding in the belief that wherever the company operates, it will leave communities stronger than it found them. Building more prosperous communities isn’t just better for the people living in them, it’s better for the company’s business and society at large.
