About “Quilters”
This Tony-nominated Denver Center original musical returns home in as a new production celebrating the company’s 30th season.  An international hit for more than 25 years, this rousing heritage musical is based on actual diaries and letters written by frontier women who made quilts as they struggled with and triumphed over obstacles.  The main story involves the character Sarah and her six daughters as Sarah works to piece together her Legacy Quilt.  The play is structured around the different blocks of her quilt, each telling a different story.  “Quilters” will run at the DCPA Stage Theatre until Jul. 12.

To celebrate the “Quilters” homecoming, the Rocky Mountain Quilt Museum’s “quilts with a story” is on display at the Bonfils Lobby featuring the original quilt from the world premiere production of “Quilters” and 30 other quilts.  Additionally, in partnership with the Colorado Aids Project, panels from the AIDS Memorial Quilt, the largest ongoing community arts project in the world, is on display in the exhibit.

Molly Newman and Barbara Damashek wrote the musical “Quilters,” based on the book, “The Quilters: Women and Domestic Art” by Patricia Cooper and Norma Bradley Allen.  Barbara Damashek wrote the music and lyrics and Penny Metropulos directs the show.
