  1. The Why: why do you do what you do?

If you asked me in June 2024, I never thought I’d be the 4th-generation entrepreneur/baker in my family! I bake cookies, but more importantly, I’m sharing my heritage with people who delight in our culture. I knew since college that my family’s cookies needed to be available to more than just the neighborhoods of South Texas. I love sharing the taste and smells of our cherished desserts, I enjoy creating a brand that highlights our celebratory spirit, and am motivated by the potential in the Hispanic community.

  1. What is one of the biggest challenges that you have overcome, and how did you overcome it?

2024 was a very hard year for me – divorce, a move, selling my ‘forever home’, and doing deep reflection on how I spend precious hours of my week and with who I spend it. Even with my high risk tolerance, it was scary and hard quitting a good paying job and putting everything I had into the start of Romero Cookies. EVERY DAY there is something I don’t know about, but I take solace knowing that my 2024 was probably the hardest, saddest, yet most growth-period of my life and if I could get through that, I can get through anything.

  1. What is your personal motto or favorite quotation?

“Work is love made visible” by Kahil Gibran.  I love productivity, I love to see the fruits of my labor and I love sharing my wealth with the people I love. I do all of this always for my three children, but also so anyone who crosses my path sees that our day’s labor can result in visible love.

  1. What is the most interesting/strangest job you ever had, and what did you learn from it?

Strange is working for your parents and never seeing a paycheck! Ok, maybe I did a couple of times, but my work hours served as IOUs, and while I felt cheated at the time, it certainly makes more sense now, given I have 3 teenagers and they spend money faster than I can count it.

  1. Advice for others in business based on what you have learned on your journey?

For people exploring entrepreneurship – YOU ARE YOUR OWN INVESTMENT. Use debt, use lending, and use wisely, but don’t be afraid to use the tools around you. While most people invest in property with their extra cash, invest in yourself and your dreams.

  1. What are you most proud of during the last year?

First month of business in Dec 2024, I shipped 30,000 cookies across the U.S. I’ve been building up to a holiday season that is hopefully 8X this. I’ve done this by failing fast and moving forward thoughtfully. I am proud of my ability to make really important decisions quickly and move on and letting go when they’re not working out. I know I will succeed if I keep letting go of what doesn’t serve me.
