DENVER (Sept.22)- The Colorado Women’s Chamber of Commerce (CWCC) gathered government leaders, industry experts and participants together for the inaugural State of Women in Business conference at the Denver Performing Arts Center yesterday, Sept. 21.  Over 285 members and professionals attended, seeking to learn more about women’s role in the Colorado business sphere.

“We are thrilled with the profound attendance and representation of powerful women in throughout the state” said CWCC President and CEO Kristen Blessman. “It is an honor to take part in providing a forum for women to connect, empower each other and provide mentorship opportunities.”

Colorado’s Lt. Gov. Donna Lynne kicked off the event highlighting the importance for women to seek mentorship and take risks when it comes to starting businesses and applying for leadership positions. Followed by Patty Silverstein, the president and chief economist for Development Research Partners, who supplied data and demographic insights on Colorado’s current business landscape.

“This type of event is integral for our city and state,” said Colorado Mayor Michael Hancock. “While progress is being made, there is still much to be done…. Together, we must keep the pressure on those few who make decisions that directly affect the diversity of our workforces.”

In addition, a panel of experts including Stephanie Donner, the former chief legal officer of Galvanize, Denney Marie Post, the CEO of Red Robin Gourmet Burgers, Jessica Skibo, the senior budget analyst for the City and County of Denver, and Monica Williams, the director of administration for diversity and engagement in the Denver International Airport provided insight on their personal experiences and advice for women in the business field.

Being one of the largest women’s chamber of commerce in the U.S., the CWCC organizes around 100 events, seminars and workshops every year to ultimately form relationships and educate the public.
